When it comes to establishing Sisterlocks®, preparation is very crucial. You need to make sure your hair is in its best condition while also making plans of how you will cope during the sessions. Here are some expert tips on how to prepare for your Sisterlocks® establishment.
1. HAVE FRESHLY WASHED HAIR & CLEAN SCALP
Shampoo your hair within 12-24 hours before your appointment. You should have a minimum of two washes with a clarifying shampoo/sulfate free i.e. Suave. You can also deep cleanse your hair and scalp using Baking Soda (Bicarbonate of Soda) with Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV). The benefits of the detox is to remove products, oils, residue and build-up on each strand; also bacteria and fungus from the scalp. Towel dry your hair, detangle while wet without any product; you can twist hair or plait in big sections. *Bring bonnet or hair wrap.
DO NOT COLOR / DYE YOUR HAIR WITHOUT DISCUSSING WITH YOUR CONSULTANT
DO NOT BLOW DRY OR STRAIGHTEN YOUR HAIR IN ANY WAY.
DO NOT ADD ANY CONDITIONERS, OILS, MOISTURIZERS.
2. PLAN YOUR TIME
Clear your entire schedule on the establishment date(s). Make sure you arrive on time for your sessions. Please keep in mind, your appointment time starts at time of your appointment as agreed; not when YOU arrive. Your consultant will have scheduled in breaks for the both of you, including lunch. Please try to refrain from asking "how much longer?" Your consultant will communicate with you when the session will END for the day and what time you need to arrive the next day if applicable. Sis, you want quality; this body of work is meticulous, taxing on the consultants back, feet, hands, wrist and must not be rushed. Trust the process and bring your patience.
3. ENSURE YOU ARE WELL RESTED
Do not let the excitement affect your sleep. The establishment process will take 16+ hours or more over a period of two - three days. So it’s best if you have had enough sleep to ensure you’re not fatigued during your session. i.e. head nodding while consultant is parting your hair. This greatly impacts your consultants ability to work effectively and can extend the time of your sessions and or lead to rescheduling.
4. HAVE A GOOD ENERGIZING BREAKFAST
For the establishment to take up as little time as possible, it is advisable to make sure you take every reasonable precaution to avoid wasting time. One such precaution is making sure you have had breakfast. i.e. smoothie, steel- cut oats oats with berries, whole-grain cereals, breakfast bars, fruit or Acai bowls, bagels with nut butter are some ideas to help you avoid mid-day crash & burn.
5. WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHES
You will be sitting for an extended period of time, so make sure you are comfortable throughout the entire process. i.e. loose, cotton, stretch, athletic wear. Bring a light sweater and or blanket in case you get cold. Be mindful of how you want to look if you are taking pictures to capture your journey.
6. A NECK PILLOW & SEAT CUSHION (optional)
The neck pillow will provide cervical & spine support and keep your head properly positioned during the establishment. You should also have a soft seat cushion that supports your tailbone while sitting extended periods of time.
7. PLAN HOW TO USE YOUR TIME
Bring a book, your phone, iPad, or laptop; anything that will keep you engaged. Be sure you don’t forget the chargers. You may carry an extension cord with you for convenience if you wish to have your device nearby.
8. BRING HEADPHONES OR WIRELESS EAR BUDS WITH CHARGER PACK
Your movie/music/video preferences may not be popular with other people in the room. To avoid making people uncomfortable, bring your headphones.
9. HAVE SNACKS ON STANDBY
Bring your water. Bring some snacks to hold you over before lunch. Having snacks ready saves time because you will not be able to take regular breaks from your session because you are starving. Also, try to avoid messy snacks type like Hostess cakes. Some chips, crackers, cookies, dried fruit, protein bars, trail mix will do. * Also any medications you may need.
10. HAVE PLANS FOR LUNCH
If you prefer homemade food, prepare it before the session and bring it with you. If not you can buy food, or may just want to order in using an on-demand food delivery app. Keep in mind to order during your session BEFORE your lunch break so that it arrives in time for lunch, to save time.
11. TAKE PICTURES * Video recording is prohibited.
Document your journey. Take pictures before, during, and after the establishment. Pictures are worth a thousand words; capturing the process will be so worth it especially when you look back and see how far you have come along and the patience you endured. Be mindful of how cute and extra you want to look specifically on the final day!
Many Thanks
